Growing Resilience

Across Cuba, people are coming together to confront some of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change, food insecurity, environmental degradation, and economic hardship. Growing Resilience tells the story of farmers, cooperative members, and local leaders who are transforming their communities through agroecology, solidarity, and education passing on knowledge to younger generations about how to care for the land and the environment that sustains them.

From diversified farms and urban gardens to workshops and environmental initiatives, these projects show how collective action can restore both ecosystems and social bonds. The film also highlights how access to land in Cuba guaranteed through cooperative and community systems is fundamental to these efforts, allowing people to cultivate independence, food security, and local resilience.

With limited resources and ongoing economic pressures, they rely on creativity, local knowledge, and collaboration to develop practical solutions. Circular economy practices, grassroots organisation, and shared learning become tools not only for survival, but for demonstrating what determined people can achieve when they work together.

Growing Resilience is a portrait of people who refuse to give up, showing how resilience can grow from the ground up through cooperation, knowledge, respect for nature, and secure access to the land that makes it all possible.
